Depart from Riobamba at 7 am, embarking on a scenic drive that takes approximately 1 hour to reach Sangay National Park. Upon arrival, proceed with registration at the park entrance before commencing the trek. The journey through the paramos highlands of Sangay National Park is challenging and often muddy, lasting around 4-5 hours. Upon reaching Campamento Italiano, settle into the pre-prepared camping tents. Porters will handle dinner preparations while the group explores the surrounding area and rests.

Exit Sangay

Following breakfast, dismantle camping gear and prepare for the descent and departure from the park. Aim to arrive at the registration point around midday to early afternoon, before driving back to Riobamba. En route, enjoy a farewell lunch.

Sangay National Park, situated in the Andes of central Ecuador, boasts diverse ecosystems, including paramo highlands, cloud forests, and active volcanoes. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is celebrated for its rich biodiversity, hosting numerous endemic plant and animal species. Paramos are unique high-altitude grasslands found in the Andes, characterized by distinctive vegetation and challenging terrain. Trekking through the paramos offers unparalleled vistas of volcanic landscapes, rugged terrain, and pristine lakes. Exploring the circuit of the lakes provides an immersive experience in the beauty of the highlands, offering glimpses of the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this environment. Camping within the park allows for a deeper connection with the Andean wilderness, providing tranquility and opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and photography.
