Your journey begins with a beautiful drive from Riobamba to the small mountain town of Achupallas. This is where the adventure truly starts. From Achupallas, you will begin hiking along the ancient Inca trail, a path rich in history and surrounded by stunning natural scenery. The trail takes you through Sangay National Park, known for its rolling hills, peaceful valleys, and incredible views of the Andes. After a few hours of walking, you will arrive at Tres Cruces, your campsite for the night. Here, you can rest, enjoy a warm meal, and take in the quiet beauty of the highlands.

Start your day with a warm breakfast at the Tres Cruces campsite before setting off on the next leg of your adventure. The trail takes you through stunning Andean landscapes, leading to the serene and picturesque Culebrillas Lagoon, nestled at an elevation of 3,700 meters. This high-altitude lake is a highlight of the trek, with its calm waters reflecting the surrounding mountains and offering a perfect spot to pause and take in the beauty of nature.

From Culebrillas Lagoon, the trail continues toward Paredones, the ruins of an ancient tambo that served as a rest stop along the Inca road. Here, you’ll find well-preserved stone walls and pathways, offering a glimpse into the remarkable history of the Inca Empire. After exploring this significant site, you'll enjoy a satisfying dinner and rest, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the highlands.

Trekking Time: 6–7 hours
Elevation: 3,700 meters

After breakfast, you’ll embark on the final stretch of the Inca Trail, trekking from Paredones to the iconic Ingapirca ruins. The five-hour hike takes you through scenic valleys and rolling hills, gradually descending to an elevation of 3,100 meters. Along the way, you'll enjoy stunning views of the Andean countryside, with its patchwork of farmland and untouched natural beauty.

Upon arriving at Ingapirca, Ecuador’s most significant Inca site, you’ll take a guided tour to explore its fascinating history. The ruins include remnants of an ancient Inca monastery and the famous Temple of the Sun, showcasing the architectural ingenuity of the Inca civilization. Your guide will share stories of its construction, significance, and the connection between Inca and Cañari cultures.

After the visit, you'll enjoy a well-deserved lunch before transferring back to Riobamba, reflecting on the journey through history and nature as you make your way home.
