At 10:00 AM, you will meet at the designated office in Riobamba, where your adventure begins. From there, you'll transfer to the Chimborazo Basecamp Lodge, a cozy and well-equipped retreat situated at an elevation of 3,900 meters. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a warm atmosphere and breathtaking views of Chimborazo, the highest peak in Ecuador. Your acclimatization journey starts here, with all meals provided, beginning with a hearty lunch that features local flavors and nutritious options to energize you for the day. Take the afternoon to adjust to the altitude, explore the surrounding trails, and enjoy the serene beauty of the high Andes. This day is designed to help your body prepare for higher elevations while immersing you in the majestic environment of Chimborazo.

On Day 2 at Chimborazo Basecamp, you'll have the opportunity to explore the stunning landscapes surrounding the lodge. This day is perfect for acclimatization, with several self-guided trails to choose from. A recommended option is trekking to Templo Machay, a fascinating ancient rock formation with cultural significance, where you can soak in the history and natural beauty of the region. For those seeking a bit more elevation, you can hike up to the Carrel Refuge at 4,800 meters, offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and glaciers. Both routes provide an excellent way to adjust to the altitude while enjoying the unique flora and fauna of the Chimborazo Reserve. All meals are included, allowing you to refuel and relax after your adventures in this serene mountain setting.
Your day begins with a pick-up at midday, around 12:00 PM, Lunch is served and you meet guides, thenn you will be transferred from your current location to the Chimborazo car park, situated at an altitude of 4,800 meters. to the Carrel Refuge, your base for the evening and the starting point for the climb. Upon arrival, you'll have time to settle into the refuge, organize your gear, and prepare for the night’s adventure.
Dinner will be served at 5:00 PM, providing a nourishing and energizing meal to fuel you for the challenging ascent ahead. After dinner, you’ll have time to rest and ensure all your equipment is ready. The climb begins at 10:00 PM under the cover of darkness, with your guide leading the way toward Chimborazo’s summit. This nocturnal start is timed to ensure optimal conditions on the glacier and to reach the summit by sunrise. The route promises a mix of excitement and challenge, with awe-inspiring views of the Andean night sky and a chance to witness Chimborazo’s rugged beauty illuminated by moonlight.
All meals are provided throughout the day, including a hearty breakfast, a balanced lunch, and an early dinner, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the summit attempt.
The climb starts at 10:00 PM, heading up the glacier under the clear night sky. Using headlamps to light the way, you'll follow your guide along the icy trail, step by step. The climb is steady and challenging, requiring focus and effort as you move higher through the thin mountain air. Along the way, you’ll take short breaks to catch your breath and stay hydrated.
After several hours of climbing, you’ll reach Chimborazo’s summit between 6:00 and 7:30 AM. Standing at the top, you’ll see an unforgettable view of the surrounding valleys, nearby peaks, and the sunrise lighting up the landscape. It’s a moment of achievement and awe, knowing you’ve reached the highest point in Ecuador and one of the most remarkable peaks in the world.
After enjoying the view, you’ll start heading back down the glacier. The descent is faster but still requires care as you make your way to the refuge. Once you arrive at the basecamp lodge, a warm breakfast will be ready for you, giving you time to relax and recover. Afterward, you’ll be transferred back to Riobamba, bringing your Chimborazo adventure to an end.
