Chimborazo Basecamp

  

Arrival in Riobamba at 10:00 a.m. for gear check, paperwork, and a short expedition briefing. Enjoy lunch in town before driving to Chimborazo Basecamp, located at 4,000 meters above sea level, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Andean highlands. In the evening, dinner and overnight at the basecamp lodge.

Chimborazo Basecamp

  

After breakfast, our driver will take you up to 4,800 meters, the Chimborazo car park. From there, you can enjoy an independent acclimatization hike along the scenic trail to Condor Cocha Lagoon, reaching an altitude of approximately 5,100 meters. This gentle trek is ideal to adapt to the high elevation while taking in spectacular views of the snowcapped summit and surrounding Andes. Around 2:00 p.m., our driver will bring you back to Chimborazo Basecamp for a well-deserved lunch, followed by a relaxed afternoon and dinner at the lodge.

Chimborazo Camp 1

  

After lunch, around 2:00 p.m., our team will pick you up for the transfer to the Chimborazo car park at 4,800 meters. From here, you’ll begin your trek towards the High Camp, located at 5,200 meters above sea level. The hike takes approximately 2 to 3 hours at a steady, moderate pace, offering breathtaking views of the glacier and surrounding Andean landscapes. Upon arrival, you’ll settle into the high camp geodomes, rest, and prepare your gear for the summit attempt. A warm dinner will be served at around 5:00 p.m., followed by an early rest period to recover and acclimatize.

At midnight (12:00 a.m.), the ascent to the summit of Chimborazo begins under the guidance of our certified mountain guides.

Chimborazo Summit

  

Summit is usually reached between 6:00 and 7:30 a.m., just in time to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Andes. After taking photos and enjoying a short rest at the top, you’ll begin the descent back to High Camp, where a well-earned breakfast will be waiting. Once ready, our team will organize the transfer back to Riobamba, marking the end of your Chimborazo expedition and the completion of one of Ecuador’s greatest mountaineering challenges.
